Glossary of Terms
This is the threshold for disability that is set by your insurance company to collect long-term disability benefits. When you first apply for benefits you must meet the “own occupation” test, meaning you are not able to work in your current position. After a certain period, typically two years, there’s the “any occupation” test to determine that you’re unable to work in any position you might normally be qualified for.
The process of assessing which skills and knowledge you have acquired through one occupation can be transferred to another context or job.
Vocational experts evaluate employability by examining your ability to work. They determine what position you may be best suited for given your current functional abilities or whether you’re able to work at all.
Statements from doctors and specialists who have treated your condition. Their statements advising that you are unable to work will be vital in fighting the denial of your long-term disability benefits claim.
